There is hope, it can get better, and I can help!
How I Can Help
I work with my clients to help them set goals and learn the skills and techniques that work best for them to achieve those goals. I am a Christian and I counsel from a Christian world-view. I only do Biblical counseling upon request. My counseling base is cognitive-behavioral. I incorporate Christian methods and beliefs only to the degree you are comfortable with – not at all, completely, or anywhere in between.
Unlike most other therapists, I do not consider myself a “jack of all trades.” Although I am well-trained and educated in treating all sorts of mental illnesses and struggles, I focus on and enjoy treating adults struggling with mood disorders, anxiety issues and couples. Mood disorders include depression, anger and bipolar. Anxiety issues include OCD, panic disorders, PTSD, phobias, and generalized anxiety. I enjoy helping couples learn to communicate better, increase their intimacy, resolve conflict, recover from infidelity (which includes sexual addictions and pornography use) and navigate the pain and confusion of divorce. I also enjoy helping couples who are planning to marry prepare for this life-long commitment.
Because of my focus and interest in mood and anxiety disorders, couples and relationships, I seek out the best and most effective methods of treatment, and work with my clients to find a treatment that is effective and will not take years- or even months – before seeing improvement. You tell me what you need, and I will do my best to provide that for you.
My education consists of a Bachelor of Science in Religion from Liberty University, and a Masters in Professional Counseling, also from Liberty University. I am licensed with the State of North Carolina (license #10246) as a Licensed Professional Counselor. My counseling experience ranges from a church setting to a non-medical substance abuse detox facility. I have been in private practice since 2013. I have been member of The Summit Church in Durham, North Carolina, since October 2010 and regularly attend the North Durham Campus. I have played with the worship team (violin) at the North Durham Campus with Sam Fisher, and served with the counseling ministry under the leadership of Brad Hambrick.
I am the proud mother of four children: Samantha and her husband, James, and their two beautiful children Jimmy and Lizzy; Matthew and his wife, Kirsten, and their two beautiful sons Adam and Ezra, and daughter Iris; Christopher; Candice and her husband, Antonio.
